What to Do on Sundays - Part 2

What to Do on Sundays - Installment 2:

Our second in a series post about Sunday activities in Amish country. This week we are going a bit farther afield to the Kidron/Orrville area. This is a beautiful drive in some of the prettiest part of the county - we know because we make the drive several times a week. If you are willing to cast your net a bit farther out, you can take advantage of some off-the-beaten path gems that are perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon - without the crowds or traffic. This week we have a tri-fecta of our favorite haunts: Journey in Time antique mall outside of Orrville, Shisler's Cheese House outside of Kidron and Winesburg Dariette for a great ice cream treat and delicious meal as well.

Journey In Time is located on Rt. 57 about a mile off Rt. 30 outside of Orrville. It is open on Sundays from 1 - 5 and features two stories of antiques, curiosities and collectibles. We added several pictures of items we found there this week to whet your appetite. This is truly a great place to wander and get lost and there is something for men and women alike here. We recently stumbled across an anvil, a panoramic photo of a church revival from 1926, 80's rock band concert pins for $1 each, Fall decor, candles that turn into hand lotion as they burn and many many other unique and interesting items. The prices are really great, too.

Shisler's Cheese House is located on Kidron Rd. and Rt. 30. Owner Rita Shisler and her son Dennis and his family run the shop and it is packed full of deli meats, interesting cheeses, condiments, chocolates, baked goods and other snack items. These are truly items that you don't see in other shops and sometimes there are even handmade Brazilian truffles for sale at the counter made by the owner's daughter-in-law. Yummy! They are open Sundays until 6 p.m.

Winesburg Dariette is open seasonally on Sundays and offers dine-in seating and also to-go options. Their ice cream treats are delicious with over 24 flavors of soft-serve to choose from. They also offer many novelty items as well as sundaes, arctic swirls and the like. They also offer a hefty dining menu with many homemade offerings. From soups to salads to sandwiches with delicious appetizers thrown in for good measure, this is a place that should not be overlooked. They are open Sundays from 3 - 9 p.m.
